Details

1 Arrive Xian, Hotel: Purple Mountain Hotel
On your arrival in Xian, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel. (L/D)
2 Xian
Visit the Terra-cotta Warriors and Horses, one of the world's great archeological treasures. Then stop to see Huaqing Hot Springs. Return to Xian and visit Forest of Steles Museum, Wild Goose Pagoda and the Ming City Wall. This evening, attend the Tang Dynasty Show. (B/L/D)
3 Xian-Dunhuang, Hotel: Dunhuang Hotel
Take the morning flight to Dunhuang. Enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Singing Sand Hills and Crescent Moon Lake. You will also have the opportunity to take a camel ride. (B/L/D)
4 Dunhuang-Turpan, Hotel: On the Train
This morning see the spectacular Buddhist paintings in the Mogao Grottoes. After lunch we travel to historic Yangguan Pass. At 9 PM we board the train for our overnight journey to Turpan. (B/L/D)
5 Turpan, Hotel: Turpan Hotel
Our train arrives in Turpan at 8 AM. Visit the Jiaohe and Gaochang ancient town ruins. We then tour Emin Minaret with an impressive cone shape tower. See the Karez wells that have irrigated this oasis for centuries, and then experience a home visit to a Uygur family. Enjoy a Uygur folk dance and music performance this evening. (B/L/D)
6 Turpan-Urumqi, Hotel: Hoi Tak Hotel
We visit the Astana Graves, where they buried the dead of Gaochang, and the City Mosque. Travel by bus from Turpan to Urumqi. (B/L/D)
7 Urumqi
This morning we go to Red Mountain Park for a panoramic city view. Visit the local bazaar, and this afternoon we will drive to Heavenly Lake and take in the natural beauty of the region. Tonight we will have a special roast lamb dinner. (B/L/SD)
8 Urumqi-Korla, Hotel: On the Train
Today you will visit a Kazak's home in the South Mountain pastureland and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Museum to see its mummies. Your afternoon is free to explore the city. Board the train and depart at 9 PM for Korla. (B/L/D)
9 Korla-Kashgar, Hotel: On the Train
Located on the northern border of the Taklamakan Desert, we arrive in Korla at 8:30 AM. Today we will see Bostan Lake and Iron Gate Pass. This evening we spend the night on the train. (B/L/D)
10 Kashgar, Hotel: Qinipak Hotel
Arrive in Kashgar, a city with over 2000 years of history. One of the highlights on your Silk Road trip will be the Sunday Bazaar. Visit the Fragrant Concubine Tomb, Id Gar Mosque, and a Uygur's home. (B/L/D)
11 Kashgar-Tashkurgan, Hotel: Pamirs Hotel
Drive overland along the Karakorum Highway to the border town of Tashkurgan. We will cross the Pamir Plateau, see glaciers, visit Kalakuli Lake, and a Kirgazi's home during the journey. (B/L/D)
12 Tashkurgan-Kashgar-Kuche, Hotel: On the Train
Today we have a full day of sightseeing as we make our way back to Kashgar. You will see Hongqirap Pass, Stone City, and have a Tajika's home visit. Return to Kashgar and board the train for our evening departure to Kuche. (B/L/D)
13 Kuche, Hotel: Kuche Hotel
We arrive at 8 AM in Kuche. Visit the Kazil caves, also known as the Thousand Buddha caves, Red Lake River Valley, Wild Poplar Tree Forest, and the Taklamakan Desert. (B/L/D)
15 Kuche-Urumqi, Hotel: On the Train
After breakfast, visit the Zhaoguli Mosque, Qiuci Ancient City Wall and the local bazaar. Depart for Urumqi by train. (B/L/D)
15 Urumqi-Beijing, Hotel: Howard Johnson
Your train arrives in Urumqi at 10 AM. Fly to Beijing this afternoon. (B/L/D)
16 Beijing - Homebound flight
Enjoy breakfast, and then transfer to the airport for your homebound flight. (B)
